According to information received from PIB, out of 140 gallantry awards, most of the 80 personnel from Left Wing Extremism affected areas and 45 personnel from Jammu and Kashmir region are being awarded.
New Delhi: On the occasion of Republic Day, a total of 901 policemen from different states of the country have been awarded Police Medals. 140 have been awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG), 93 the President’s Police Medal (PPM) and 668 the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM). According to information received from PIB, out of 140 gallantry awards, most of the 80 personnel from Left Wing Extremism affected areas and 45 personnel from Jammu and Kashmir region are being awarded.

Gallantry awardees include 48 personnel from CRPF, 31 from Maharashtra, 25 from J&K Police, 09 from Jharkhand, 07 from Delhi, Chhattisgarh and BSF and the rest from other States/UTs and CAPFs .
Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) is awarded on the basis of conspicuous gallantry in saving life and property or preventing crime or arresting criminals. The President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM) is awarded for a distinguished record in police service. And the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM) is awarded for devotion to duty.
