A charge sheet has been filed in the Sessions Court today in connection with the Morbi bridge accident in Gujarat. This includes 10 accused. The police said that this charge sheet has about 1200 pages.
Morbi (Gujarat): The police on Friday filed a charge sheet in connection with the suspension bridge collapse incident that took place in the city of Morbi in Gujarat in October last year. In which 135 people died. The more than 1,200-page charge sheet was filed in the Morbi Sessions Court by Deputy Superintendent of Police P.S. Filed by Jhala. Jhala who is the investigating officer of the case. Apart from the nine accused who are already in jail, Jaysukh Patel of Orewa Group, who managed the bridge, has been named as the tenth accused in the charge sheet.
The company was liable for maintenance: The Magistrate Court has issued an arrest warrant against Jaisukh Patel in connection with the bridge collapse incident on October 30, 2022. His pre-arrest bail plea will be heard on February 1. Ajanta Manufacturing Limited (Orewa Group) was responsible for the management and maintenance of the British-era suspension bridge over the collapsed Machu river. Therefore, the name of the people of that company has also been taken in it.
Bail hearing of accused on February 1: The court has issued an arrest warrant against Jaysukh Patel of Orewa Group, which holds the contract for renovation of Morbi bridge. He has not been arrested for 70 days. No lookout notice has been issued yet, public prosecutor Sanjay Vora told ANI yesterday. Interestingly, Patel had approached the Morbi Sessions Court on January 20 for pre-arrest bail in this case. As the public prosecutor is not present, the hearing has been postponed till February 1.
Accident due to passing of many people at the same time: Preliminary report of FSL has been submitted during the hearing of the bail application of the accused. In which the Orewa Group was entrusted with the responsibility for the repair and safety of the bridge. 3165 tickets were issued on October 30, the day of the accident. The ticket giver did not think what would happen if so many people crossed the bridge. There were two ticket counters on the bridge and both the persons did not know how many tickets were issued from each other’s counters, hence the mishap.
The bridge was in disrepair: The main part of the suspension bridge was corroded. The report revealed that its bolts had come loose. Evidence presented before PC Joshi, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Morbi. The three security guards Alpesh Gohil, Dilip Gohil and Mukesh Chauhan accused in this incident were not given any training. He was a labor contract. Also, the manager had to explain to his staff that only 100 people could cross the bridge, but the manager did not. The cable of the bridge corroded and the ropes attached to the bridge were not replaced.
